About us

Like many Koi hobbists, my brother and I started keeping aquarium fish at a very young age.

We started with guppies and fighting fish or betta. We can't manage Gold fish and Discus at that time because they are not so hardy and die easily.

In 1998, I started to keep Ranchu after I saw a very nice China Ranchu in one of the Ranchu competition at Tanglin mall.  We also started to keep some local koi in a 3 ft glass tank.

Local koi tends to have pot belly and does not grow very big, so we started our quest for better quality Japanese koi. We used to go to some of the koi Farm in old Tampines Fish Farm Road 2 to get some of koi from them. One of them is Mainland which has been relocated to Pasir Ris Farmway 1.

In 1999, we upgraded from 3 ft glass tank to 3.5ft x 2ft x 1ft plastic tub as koi is better view from the top as we heard.
But we lost many koi due to lack of knowledge on maintaining good water quality. Many new purchase died after a few days as they were not accustomed to the water condition and many jumped out of the tank. I started to look into Internet for knowledge of maintaining good water quality and so the water condition improved as I gained more knowledge. We also DIY many types of filters to achieve better filtration.
In 2001, I got married and shifted to Yishun. I upgraded my tank to a 5ft x 4 ft x 2 ft fibreglass tank with the encouragement (or some may say approval) of my wife.

Through these years, I have aquired some knowledge on koi keeping and appreciation. I hope to share these experience and knowledge with beginners and all who are interested in keeping Japanese koi as a hobby. I also hope that you can experience for yourself the joy of koi keeping in many ways and in many years to come!
